#37: First 3D Movie
Movies were still a relatively new technology in the 1920s. That’s why it’s so surprising that the first 3D movie debuted in 1922. Yes, they had 3D glasses technology back then! The Power of Love was the first-ever 3D movie. It may seem ironic to us today, but the movie was silent, as Hollywood didn’t yet have the technology to create talkies.
The Power of Love debuted at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles on September 27, 1922. The film was shown using the classic red and green glasses and dual-strip projection. It seems that movie-goers weren’t ready for this technology back in 1922. The 3D movie was not screened again due to lack of interest.
