#23: First Woman to Fly Solo
Although most of us remember Amelia Earhart for her tragic and untimely end, it’s important to remember that she achieved a lot of “firsts” and broke down many barriers while she was alive. On May 21, 1932, Earhart became the first woman to fly nonstop over the Atlantic Ocean by herself.
This achievement made headlines around the world, solidifying Earhart as a pioneer of aviation. The solo trip took fifteen hours. Earhart took off from Newfoundland and landed in Ireland to make this achievement. Before this achievement, Amelia Earhart became the first woman to fly over the Atlantic, period. She was part of the three-person crew in 1928.
