#44: The First National Pinball Competition
We didn’t know that we needed to know about the first national pinball competition, but here we are. The very first pinball tournament happened on May 26, 1935, and the rest is history. According to Guinness World Records, this tournament was called the “Big Whiffle Tournament.” It took place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
This inaugural competition was no joke. There were $1,000 worth of prizes, including a “fine bedroom suite.” Sign us up! Apparently, pinball was a big deal. The competition had hundreds of competitors and acted as a fundraiser for the Badger State Advancement Association. Today, the official pinball competition is hosted every year by the International Flipper Pinball Association.
