#26: The First TV Sitcom
TV sitcoms are a dime a dozen. Television and streaming services would seem strange without them, right? But what was considered the very first television sitcom show? Well, that honor goes to a show called Pinwright’s Progress. The show debuted on BBC on November 29, 1946, and followed the adventures of the world’s smallest shop.

The show featured the shop owner, J. Pinwright, and other characters like his daughter and arch-enemy. Pinwright’s Progress was the world’s first regular half-hour televised sitcom. It was on air between 1946 and 1947 for ten episodes. Unfortunately, no footage of the show remains. We only have still images to give us a peek into what the show was like.
