They say that size doesn’t matter, but a scroll through this list of photos might change your mind. In the animal world, size certainly matters. We’re not just talking about whales, crocodiles, and wild animals – but even domesticated dog breeds, grasshoppers, and moose are sometimes much larger than we’d like to think. Even after we hear the size of these animals, it’s hard for us to imagine their enormous size – which is why we’ve gathered some photos depicting the size of the biggest animals in nature.
#1: The Ardennais Horse
The Ardennais is one of the oldest and largest horse breeds. It originated in Belgium, Luxembourg, and France and is named after the Ardennes area. Due to its large size, heavy bone structure, and thick legs (as seen in the picture below), the Ardennais were (and still are) used as workhorses for draft work.
While they aren’t as tall as other horse breeds—their average height is 1.60 meters—this mighty horse can weigh over 2,000 pounds ( 700 to 1,000 kilograms). They are very strong (as you can probably tell by their size and muscular build), but they have a very friendly and relaxed temper, which makes them excellent workhorses and driving horses.
