#11: He’s Your Lobster
Okay, so this isn’t the claw of an average lobster but an exceptionally large one. While the lobsters we most often eat (the Maine lobster) weigh around 1-2 pounds, lobsters can weigh as much as 40 pounds and grow up to 4 feet long. Likewise, while most lobsters we eat or buy at the store have a lifespan of 5-7 years, lobsters can live up to 100 years and more.
Interestingly, lobster claws are quite massive – sometimes as big as the lobster’s entire body. So, if the claw shown in this photo seems ridiculously big, it doesn’t necessarily mean the body attached to it is exceptionally large. By its size, we can tell this was a fully-grown, old lobster, probably around 100 years.
