There are countless records to hold and break within any given sport. Soccer is no different. When it comes to Pelé, it’s no surprise that the legendary Brazilian soccer player holds more than a few records. Although some of his records have been surpassed by other players over the years, there is one that still stands. 

Pelé remains the first and only soccer player to achieve over 1,000 competitive play goals. His 1,000th goal happened on November 19, 1969. But he wasn’t done there. He went on to score a total of 1,281 goals in competitive play over the course of his career. No other player has come close to beating this record.
