#14: First Pedestrian Hit By a Car
Well, this historical first isn’t exactly positive. Just like the fact that there was a first car ride, there was also the first car accident. Someone has to have the title of being the first pedestrian hit by a car. That sad honor goes to Bridget Driscoll, who was hit by a moving car on August 17, 1896.

This unfortunate event happened in London when Bridget Driscoll was out for a walk with her daughter and a friend. She was crossing Dolphin Terrace when she was struck by a car going between 4 and 8 miles per hour. Unfortunately, Bridget died due to her injuries. Her death was ruled as an “accidental death.” The coroner was quoted saying he hoped “such a thing would never happen again.”
