Thrown to the Wolves
I think everyone who has ever had a job is familiar with those classic onboarding videos. Although it’s a dull first day, it’s easy enough and predictable. That is until your manager pulls you out just ten minutes in and asks you to cover the sales floor immediately. Why? Oh, because you’re the only person in your department that day.
Jumping in on the fly like that isn’t easy, but it might be manageable with the right support going into it. This person, however, had nothing. No training or computer logins or even the slightest idea where to go or who to talk to. This experience did show this person what the job was really like, though – and they left soon after.
