The Math Doesn’t Check Out
Accepting a job with a set number of hours and wage per hour makes it easy to plan your budget and ensure you can pay for the essentials. However, some mechanics work by “flag hours,” which is determined by the perceived difficulty of each repair. This person’s job went from a set hourly wage to flag hours on day one.

Although the flag hourly wage was higher than the original agreement, flag hours are harder to predict, and your payments won’t be determined by the number of hours worked. This person did some quick math and realized that even a busy day wouldn’t cover the bills. That was all they needed to hear, and they never returned.
