#9: Australian Camels
Wait, what? There are a few things that are surprising here. First of all, don’t camels come from the Middle East? Aren’t they like natives or something? Second of all, I didn’t know that importing animals into the wild was really something that countries did. I thought it was only for zoos or for meat.
Well, as it turns out, the major reason to import these camels is for meat, but that’s not even the craziest thing. It turns out camels were only introduced into Australia in the 19th century from South Asia and the Persian Gulf, and now they’re being exported back to Arabia as the local population has dwindled. Pretty wild.
