#50: How Can This Be a Human Right?
No offense to the United Nations Human Rights Council, but how exactly can the internet be a human right? Doesn’t a right have to be something interminable, something that is true no matter the context and no matter anything else? Well, how can the internet be interminable? It’s a human invention.
No thanks, UN, I’ll keep seeing food, water, safety and education as human rights as the internet remains a privilege. The privilege to watch cat dress-up videos curled up on my screen or to watch people execute viral dance numbers in their pajamas. Okay, wait, maybe this is a basic human right…
