#38: The Ecosystem of a Tree
On the one hand, trees are the most banal, ordinary thing in existence. We see them every day, lining our streets and standing in our parks, not doing very much at all. On the other hand, they are these amazing, sophisticated creations, constantly photosynthesizing, providing us with shade, oxygen, flowers, and fruit.
So it turns out trees are even cooler than we know. Not only do they have all these features for human benefit, but they also live in a system of solidarity that would put the most Socialist society to shame. I didn’t know trees could communicate and conduct trade through their roots, but now that I do, I wish I had some roots myself.
