#20: One Man’s Backyard
I may not exactly be an expert on International warfare, but it does seem to me like some of the world’s biggest conflicts take place in the most ridiculous circumstances, often coming about through strange coincidences or silly mistakes. The American Civil War is certainly no exception to this rule.

What’s most fascinating about this piece of military trivia is that the backyard and the parlor room mentioned here were part of two different houses. After the Battle of the Bull Run ruined grocer Wilmer Mclean’s backyard, he moved to a different county, only to find four years later that the war followed him there.
