#15: Straight Talk
An important thing to learn is when certain phrases are actually just euphemisms for something that’s actually pretty crappy. For instance, if a property is described as “cozy,” there’s a good chance that what that means is that it’s tiny and crowded. If it’s described as “rustic,” that could mean unfinished, outdated, or miles from civilization.
And if it “has character”—well, it might indeed have character, such as interesting architectural details from a bygone era. But there’s also a good chance that that phrase means “looks completely nuts” or “is from a time so long ago that you will waste all of your money trying to pay for all the needed repairs.”
