#25: Neither a Borrower Nor a Lender
Here’s a free piece of advice: don’t lend money to any person that you hope to maintain a relationship with. There is a very real chance that they are not going to pay you back, and with your constantly bugging them, and them feeling guilty when they’re around you because it reminds them that they still owe you money, the relationship is going to be ruined.
Here’s my useful life hack: start using the phrase “I have a personal policy that…” In this case, when someone asks to borrow money, you say, “Sorry, but I have a personal policy that I don’t lend money to friends.” See, now it’s nothing personal; it’s a rule that you’ve set for yourself. Please memorize this phrase and be ready to pull it out at opportune moments.
