#17: Expensive Tastes
I remember distinctly the moment I learned two things: first, how different the rich were from me and my family, and second, how expensive drinking alcohol is. I was working doing market research one summer in college, and I called a Wall Street type and gave him the spiel about how if he was willing to do this survey, we would give him $100.
His response: “Sure, that’ll pay for drinks tonight after work.” That blew my mind. I was a starving college student, and I could make $100 stretch out for a month or two of meals easily. Like the person in this story, I realized quickly that not drinking is a sound financial decision.
