Mulling over Texas conjures up an image so vivid that it’s practically a caricature dressed in boots and spurs: a land where the gun is as ubiquitous as the cowboy hat, and the horizon is a perpetual standoff between the setting sun and the lone silhouette of a cowboy.
While steeped in the rich marinade of history and Hollywood, this tableau barely scratches the surface of the Lone Star State’s vast and varied identity. Yet, it’s this very stereotype that endears Texas to the imagination, transforming it into a place where every dispute could feasibly be settled with a draw and every greeting comes with a tip of the hat.
