Some people get along well with their mother-in-law, but others have a more complicated relationship. This woman does her best, but the relationship with her husband’s mom is strained. One year, her mother-in-law was responsible for hosting Thanksgiving. For whatever reason, she totally lost it the day of and canceled their get-together. 

The mother-in-law insisted that her sons take her to K&W Cafeteria for lunch that day, even though she said dinner was “canceled.” Our storyteller decided not to join her husband and went home instead. This decision was probably for the best. If a family member negatively affects your mental health, it’s best not to engage with them if you can.
