#16: The Red Tab
You know those plastic red tape dispensers that hold rolls of packing tape? They’re extremely convenient because they make cutting tape a breeze while packing up boxes and packages. However, there’s another secret feature of its design that is under-utilized. The red nub that curves along the edge of the tape dispenser isn’t there to hold in your roll of tape. It has an actual purpose.
The plastic nub is meant to find the edge of the tape. It’s one of our modern day’s most trying experiences to find and peel up the edge of a roll of clear plastic tape. The edge of the tape is always impossible to peel up in one piece when you just use your fingernail. Next time you need to find the end, press the plastic nub down and move the tape around. The nub will catch on the tape edge and peel it up. Nifty, huh?
