#28: Tying the (Very Expensive) Knot
Here’s one that not only isn’t going away, it’s actually getting worse and worse over time. Quartz compared a study in 1939 and one in 2012 and found that in 1939, weddings cost an average of 25% of the median household income, while in 2012, weddings cost 49% of the median household income.
Some studies have found that half of couples in America go into debt to pay for their wedding, and have even found that as many as 40% of wedding guests go into debt to pay to go to other people’s weddings! This is definitely out of control. Who wants to start a marriage out with a financial crisis for you and your loved ones?
