We’ve looked at this picture for a couple of minutes, and we honestly have no idea what it is. To be honest, it looks like some kind of weapon or a weird pizza slicer. Those are the two associations that come to mind! It might be time to get some dinner, but before we do that, let’s find out what this thing is.
As one Reddit user explained, this object is a cassette demagnetizer. When compact cassette tapes were introduced in the early sixties, they carried electric charge that would become magnetized—this is where the cassette demagnetizer enters the picture. It was used to remove the excess magnetism in the tape reel. I wonder if our parents or grandparents are familiar with this item.
