#37: Circles in the Sky
This person was driving through Erie, Pennsylvania, when he noticed weird circles in the sky. According to him, many folks (himself included) pulled over to take pics of it! Curious, indeed. Wouldn’t you take a second look if you saw an unexplained circle in the sky while driving? You probably would.

This person didn’t just take a picture—he took it a step further and posted it on the r/WhatIsThisThing subreddit. Unlike what some people probably thought, these mysterious smoke rings have nothing to do with aliens. Cylindrical, metal barrels hanging on electric posts known as “transformers” are responsible for them. This phenomenon is called soliton, resulting from a rotating motion of smoke from the transformers.
