#40: Jaw of a Freshwater Drum Fish
If it wasn’t for the good folks on Reddit, this person would have never found out what this thing was. After 20 years of research, he turned to the social network for help. We’re probably just as puzzled as this person was. Maybe even more so. We’ve never seen anything like this before, but we might guess it’s a fossil of some kind.
This is a jaw of a freshwater drum fish, which is common in the U.S. and Central America. The fish has human-like molars, which allow it to consume crunchy oysters and mussels. In the photo, we’re looking at the drum’s jaw backward.
