#58: Dads Are Parents Too
This sentiment was brought up repeatedly on this thread; a lot of men feel as if society perceives moms and dads differently when it comes to raising their children. If a mom stays home to watch the kid, she’s parenting, fulfilling her role as a mother, and if a dad stays home to watch the kids, he’s “babysitting.”
When a man stays home to watch the kids he’s praised for it, as if it’s not obvious that he should stay home or as if he’s doing his wife some big favor. Maybe that’s how things used to be fifty years ago, but today, dads take an equal part in raising their kids, and it shouldn’t be perceived otherwise.
