#37: Look for Red Flags
Domestic abuse is more common than most of us care to think. The stereotype of an abuser is often characterized as a man who is physically harmful to their female partner. However, men can experience domestic abuse in a relationship just as seriously as women. One Reddit user shared his experience of breaking up with an abusive ex, and it was pretty scary.
When he broke up with his high school girlfriend, she physically attacked him and stalked him for weeks. He shared that no one besides his mom thought what he was going through was a big deal. Most people assumed she was just the “crazy ex” and he was able to take care of himself because he was the masculine one in the relationship. In reality, men experience the negative effects of domestic abuse in the same way. It’s important to look for red flags of abuse no matter who you are dating.
