Requiem for a Dream is an intense, dark, and depressing novel that accurately portrays the spiraling lives of drug addicts. It was published in 1978, adapted to cinema, and released in 2000 with Darren Aronofsky as the director.
Though a grim and difficult film to get through, its surreal tone and intimate storytelling connected with the critics and audience who watched it. The performances by its actors elevated it to great success.
