19. American Psycho (2000)
Not everyone has seen this movie, but American Psycho has certainly reached audiences, if only because of the meme culture that has risen up from its darkly goofy tone. The movie opened to positive albeit controversial reviews and acquired something of a cult following over the years.
The novel’s author Bret Easton Ellis thought the movie was unfilmable due to its graphic nature. He seemed to appreciate certain aspects of the film after its release though, as well as its aid in clarifying certain aspects of his novel. However, he went on the record to say he “didn’t think it needed to be made.”
