#36: Borden’s Dairy
During the roaring 1920s, the Borden Company embarked on an era of rapid expansion. They gobbled up two titanic ice cream manufacturers, turning the U.S. dessert landscape into their playground. Borden’s Dairy eventually went backrupt in 2020, but during the 1920s, it was their time to shine.

Between 1927 and 1930, Borden embarked on a shopping spree, acquiring over 200 companies across the United States. This strategic move catapulted Borden to the top, making them the country’s leading distributor of fluid milk. In 1936, they introduced a charming new face to represent their brand—Elsie the Cow.
