The Opposite Effect
The premise of Scared Straight is simple. People who are headed down a bad path get the chance to see how poorly their lives can turn out. The idea is that the participants on the show will be so terrified by their potential futures that they stick to the straight and narrow from then on. However, in this instance, the show seems to have had the opposite effect.
Sadly, the contestant in this story became a drug addict after her time on the show. The producers of Scared Straight probably don’t want their viewers to know about that since it would call the effectiveness of their approach into question. But what’s more important is that this woman found her way to a rehab facility and is hopefully finding better success than she found on reality TV.
