#28: Contingency Plan
When it comes to negotiating contracts, Mark Wahlberg knows how to get creative. The actor was originally set to play the lead role in Silver Linings Playbook, a part that would ultimately go to Bradley Cooper. But in Wahlberg’s contract for the role, he included a rather peculiar clause. He was entitled to a whopping $900,000 if the lead actress opposite him (Anne Hathaway at the time) dropped out.
We don’t know a lot about movie contracts, but that sounds like a contingency plan. We can’t blame Wahlberg for wanting to protect his payday, but it’s hard not to chuckle at the thought of him eagerly waiting for Hathaway to drop out so he could collect his cash. It’s funny how things worked out, and both stars ended up dropping the roles. We’re pretty sure Bradley Cooper was just happy to have the role without any added clauses.
