#6: What’s in a Name?
The good old days of Hollywood – where contracts were long, names were fake, and drama was high. There’s a lot we don’t know about that ear of Hollywood; for example, did you know that one of the most iconic names in Tinseltown wasn’t even chosen by the actress herself? That’s right, Lucille LeSueur had to change her name because MGM thought her last name sounded too similar to “sewer.”
Can you blame them? Who wants to be associated with a big ol’ pipe full of waste? But instead of just letting her choose a new name, they ran a magazine contest. And the winning name? Joan Crawford. So, the next time you watch one of her classic films, just remember – that name might not have been her first choice, but boy, did she make it her own.
