#17: Top Billing
The 1980s were a time of big hair, bright colors, and some seriously creative problem-solving in Hollywood. Take the case of Bette Midler and Shelley Long in Outrageous Fortune, for example. Both actresses were promised top billing in the film, but since only one name could come first, Touchstone Pictures came up with a unique solution – they gave Bette top billing on one side of the US and Shelley top billing on the other.
Hey, when you’ve got two powerhouse actresses, you’ve got to find a way to keep them both happy, right? Of course, we now know that both Bette and Shelley are true stars, no matter what their billing says. So, the next time you watch Outrageous Fortune, just remember – both of these ladies are at the top of their game, no matter which coast you’re on.
