#2: Never Leave Character
Steven Spielberg is a legendary director known for his meticulous attention to detail. But did you know that he took things to a whole new level while filming his masterpiece, Lincoln? Apparently, he refused to call any of his actors by their actual names, opting instead to use only their character names.
That’s right – Daniel Day-Lewis was no longer Daniel, but rather Abraham Lincoln himself. And Sally Field? She was Mary Todd Lincoln, 24/7. It’s a good thing the cast didn’t have any method actors, or things could have gotten confusing really fast. But hey, if you want to get into character, sometimes you got to take extreme measures. Just don’t be surprised if Spielberg calls you by your character’s name at the next family reunion.
