#9: Something about Squirrels
Printed materials with pictures and no words can be effective if done correctly. Just look at IKEA manuals! As annoyed as people get about trying to assemble IKEA products, the manuals do a great job of communicating information to speakers of all languages. But done poorly, this approach just becomes baffling.
I have looked at this sign a lot, and I still don’t know what it’s saying. If you’re going to walk into the next lane of traffic, try not to step on any squirrels? If you mean to dig here, make sure you avoid the underground squirrels? And is the bottom section telling me that I could get a $100 fine or that I’ll earn $100 if I hit a squirrel with a hammer? Could someone please explain this?
