This contributor is so sweet as they speak of their uber-cool mom. They openly acknowledge that skateboarding is hella hard, but there’s momma! Skateboarding, originally called “sidewalk surfing,” became incredibly popular in the early 1960s but declined in interest after a few years. However, the early 1970s brought about a revival thanks to an upgrade in the materials used to make new boards. Not surprisingly, it was most popular in California due to its close similarity to surfboarding.
