#28: WWII Fighter Jet
During World War II, in September 1942, this American fighter plane crashed just off the shore of Wales, United Kingdom. The aircraft is a Lockheed P-38 Lightning and had the nickname Maid of Harlech. Unfortunately, it has spent several decades buried under the sand, although nature has uncovered it a few times over the years and then buried it again.
This site is significant because it is the first military aircraft crash site within the UK to be granted protected status. It is considered to be rich in historical and archeological significance. In fact, to preserve this site fully, the location is kept a secret from the public.
