This fossil doesn’t look like your average Jurassic find. It is an average imprint, but it is made of precious metal material. What gives? Although it may look metallic, this fossil is made from pyrite. Does that ring a bell? It’s also known as Fool’s Gold.

Pyrite has fooled many people into thinking their discovery was worth a lot of money, but sadly this one isn’t. In fact, pyrite will eventually decay. So while this fossil looks really neat in this photo, it won’t be too long before it begins to turn to dust and smell. Best to just leave it in the ground.
