When a carcass washes up onto the beach, it isn’t unusual to still have some flesh on it. So, that wasn’t a surprise when this monstrosity washed up on an Indonesian beach on Seram Island. Instead, the shock came from the creature’s enormous size and state of decay; nobody could identify the animal.

The creature could not be identified because it was missing most of its body, bloated, and dripping blood. Eventually, scientists could tag it as a type of baleen whale. They examined the accessible features, which helped them make their determination, but it wasn’t determined what happened to the poor creature.
