#15: This Very Long Fish
In 2015, a creature from the deep washed ashore on Catalina Island, California, during low tide, and it was stunning. But, no, it wasn’t some ancient evil sea creature. Instead, it was a deep-sea oarfish, which is so elusive that biologists don’t know very much about it. So, this presented them with a golden opportunity.
These rare marine life creatures are very long; some think they resemble the eel family. They live in the deepest, darkest parts of the sea, which explains why we don’t know much about them. This opportunity was a rare treat for scientists, who learned a lot from this one beached oarfish.
