#29: Metal Flakes
Here’s something you don’t see every day. A beach-goer in Los Angeles noticed that their bag’s magnetic clasp was covered in metal fragments. Millions of tiny metal flakes must cover this clasp, creating a surreal image. So, where did all of them come from?
It turns out that these flakes came from naturally occurring magnets that eroded into very fine particles, just like a rock erodes into sand. So, the magnet within this bag’s clasp attracted all these tiny particles from the sand. We wonder what other treasures we never realized are hidden within our beaches.
