Users of early Windows operating systems all remember these annoying, useless pop-ups. They were all different versions of the same thing. The pop-up would very aggressively tell you that you must purchase a license or install some kind of software. But it was a widely-known secret that you could just click “Close” and continue using the program. What was the point of these things?
