Floppy disks are considered obsolete today, but when they debuted in the 70s, they opened up a whole new world where people could easily share information and resources. Of course, giant corporations didn’t like the idea of free information-sharing. Why would they? “Free” means “losing money” for big businesses. They don’t want that!
The rise of floppy disks saw a rise in PSAs about pirating and stealing software. Corporations wanted people to buy their proprietary software, not get it for free. These very dramatic PSA ads were everywhere, and they continued on in one form or another as technology advanced to cassettes, CDs, Napster, and illegal streaming sites. Some things change, but other things stay the same.
