Not-so-Cute Comments
Raise your hand if your parents love babies. They especially love babies when they’re potential future grandbabies, right? However, people in interracial partnerships often experience inadvertent racism when it comes to parents and in-laws becoming excited about the possibility of future grandkids. In their excitement, they sometimes say things that are unintentionally racist.
Commenting about how cute an imaginary biracial baby would be is pretty cringe. Yes, they will be adorable. There’s no doubt about that! But, focusing on the color of their skin and generalizing about potential traits they would have can feel demeaning to people in interracial relationships. A lot of times, comments like this can feel fetishizing and stereotyped. It’s best to emphasize baby cuteness in other ways.
