#47: Vincent van Gogh
Vincent van Gogh is arguably one of the world’s most famous and celebrated post-impressionist artists, but this great acceptance happened years after he died. Van Gogh suffered considerably from mental illness and depression and sadly took his own life at the age of 37 in 1890.
It was his sister-in-law, Jo van Gogh-Bonger, who, after inheriting his paintings, made it her life’s mission to help get her brother-in-law’s work out there in the world and loaned pieces out to exhibitions.
