#48: Wilbur and Orville Wright
Without Wilbur and Orville Wright, we wouldn’t know what it means to have modern aviation. As the first successful men to achieve a sustained flight on December 17, 1903, the brothers have gone down in history as some of the most notable figures known to man.
While the brothers intended to create the airplane as a means of peace, they felt partly responsible as their invention was used in modern-day warfare. The brothers are pictured here on the front steps of their home in Dayton, Ohio, in 1909.
