#42: We’re Huge Fans
We’re big fans of this secret feature. Most ceiling fans come with a built-in feature that lets you reverse the direction of the fan blades. Why? Well, when you reverse the direction of a fan, it redistributes warm air downward. Yup, you can use your ceiling fan to warm your home in the winter!
Most fans can be set to spin clockwise to get this warming effect. When temperatures rise, you can reset your fan to spin counter-clockwise. The key to making this work is to set your fan on low during the warm setting. Otherwise, you’ll just be making yourself colder in the winter. It seems counterintuitive, but it really works.
