There seem to be some little details missing from the account given here, first and foremost, the specific intention of the word “witnessing” in this given use. Was the young lad just sitting there watching the fishing family do their thing, or was there some interaction between the parties involved?
What does it mean to unknowingly encounter a child, and what made it such a memorable day for him? I wonder if the dissonance between his overt enthusiasm and their complete ignorance of his present is a dynamic that has continued to filter into their relationship to this very day.
