Apart from being very pretty, Vera was crowned the Womenswear Designer of the Year by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) in June 2005. Also, Savannah College of Art and Design Awarded her the “Andre Leon Talley Lifetime Achievement Award” the following year. She is a woman with a lot of accolades.

In 1968, she skated in the United States Figure Skating Championships and she got a feature in an issue of Sports magazines. Vera went into the fashion industry after failing to make the US Olympic squad. However, She is still a competitive figure skater and a die-hard fan of the sport. Perhaps her switch from sports to fashion was influenced by the extravagant figure skating costumes.
