What’s the Big Deal
Running speeds are so technical and granular that most of us average folks simply don’t care. Whenever a speed runner breaks a world record by .001 seconds, it seems like such a small feat. Why do they always act so smug about it? Well, it’s actually a pretty big feat, even if their record time is faster by less than a second.
Breaking a world record is breaking a world record, hands down. These runners train their whole lives in the hope of beating everyone else. If .001 of a second is what does it, so be it. So what if no one else cares? They can walk around with a look of superiority all they want because they know how hard they worked to achieve it.
